      <image:title>About Me - Hi! I’m Amelia</image:title>
      <image:caption>I’ve been practicing yoga since 2005 years and began teaching in 2010. I discovered the embodied practice of yoga and the academic side of yoga at the same time when I was 19, at Leeds University, in the early 2000s. The yoga classes in the uni gym were free, so I went every day! I enjoyed the classes as a space for non-competitive movement and quickly went on to discover many styles of yoga - Iyengar Yoga, Satyananda Yoga, Vinyasa Flow, hatha, Ashtanga. At the same time, I took classes in esoteric art, and Buddhist art, which were helpful when I went on to study the history of modern yoga. Before training to be a yoga teacher I finished my degree in art and literature and worked in the arts industry. I’m based in the north of the UK and live happily with a myriad of pot plants whilst teaching yoga, continuing with PhD research, taking walks on the Yorkshire moors and still doing the occasional drawing. Cultivating connection in communities and making a difference to individual lives remains a priority.</image:caption>

      <image:title>About Me - What kind of yoga do you teach…</image:title>
      <image:caption>My priority as a teacher, is you, the student, and your needs. I trained in viniyoga as a Yoga Therapist. Viniyoga is about adapting the practice to suit the needs of the students. This is a central ethos in my teaching. I teach hatha yoga, yin, pregnancy yoga and chair-based group yoga. I also see private clients for yoga therapy (sometimes). I am VERY enthusiastic about students using props for support. To find out more about what you can expect in each yoga class with me visit the class page for a more detailed description but as a summary, in my yoga classes we practice: mindful movement breath awareness and relaxation. In addition: I’m an inclusive yoga teacher. I’m committed to physical and social accessibility in yoga. I believe in HAES - health at every size. Every BODY has the potential to be a yoga body and is welcome on the mat (or chair).</image:caption>

      <image:title>About Me - Yoga Industry Experience</image:title>
      <image:caption>I’ve been in the industry since 2010. I have taught yoga in gyms, student unions, community centres, village halls, city-centre yoga studios, women’s refuges and in work-places. I’ve taught yoga to the elderly in care homes, to groups with specialist needs (such as M.S.); at tranquil retreats, in festival fields to the very hung over, and online, during the pandemic. I worked with Yogacampus, a leading yoga training organisation in the UK, from 2016-2024. For several years I oversaw the Yoga Teacher Training and Yoga Therapy Training diploma courses as the Operations Manager. I worked as the Business Manager for The Life Centre North, a busy yoga studio in central Manchester. I managed the teaching schedule, marketing, social media and communications strategy and output. I worked with Yogacampus as a board member and lead yoga teacher trainer on the Yogacampus 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training Diploma course in Manchester, UK from 2021-24. Facilitated the Yogacampus online course on the history of yoga 2020-24. Recently, I have designed and delivered several courses and training days, based on my original academic work and yoga experience on topics such as Spiritual Abuse, the role of women in yoga, and trauma awareness in yoga. I have delivered these independently and for the British Wheel of Yoga, Yoga Scotland, SOAS Yoga Studies Online, and Nourish Yoga Training. I am a member of the Yoga Teachers Union. I believe in fair pay for precarious workers.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Yoga Practice - Yoga</image:title>
      <image:caption>In general group classes I teach mindful movement. The yoga practice is fluid and functional, slow and precise. The breath leads the movement. The body gently stretches and strengthens. In class you will breathe and move, letting the breath lead the movement, keeping attention on the body, the inhale, the exhale, bring the mind back to the body. I don’t ask students to move particularly quickly but we do repeat movements and build strength (gently); I focus on the core and the spine as the centre of the body; you will lengthen your limbs and muscles but not overstretch. I aim to bring a sense of grounding and balance. I always move the body within our pain-free range; we repeat these movements and sometimes remain static and we (hopefully) find a stillness in the mind. The practice can be adapted to your needs along the way - this is viniyoga. We might start by standing and end by lying for a moment of relaxation and to mark the time between practicing yoga and re-entering the world. On studio schedules these classes are labelled slow flow, mindful movement, Hatha yoga or (simply) yoga.</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f47ad72a946ff0e0539473d/1598553796736-5L3CKU56UUT76ANY2N44/DSCF7549200801.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Yoga Practice - Yin Yoga</image:title>
      <image:caption>In yin yoga we move towards stillness. The practice is, on the whole floor based and done sitting, lying and kneeling, with the very occasional standing pose. Poses are held for 2-7 minutes to impact the fascia - deep connective tissue. We observe bodily sensations, turn the attention inwards and, as always, pay attention to the breath. The use of props is very much encouraged in yin yoga. Be generous towards yourself - when lying down support your knees with a bolster or rolled up blanket, the back of your head with a blanket. Supports and props allow us to reduce discomfort and therefore distractions, so we can focus on stilling the mind. I trained with Norman Blair but I bring my own flavour to yin yoga. In keeping with all my classes, I focus on the breath, adapting and embodying the practice. In my yin classes there may be more movement than you find in others.</image:caption>
    </image:image>

      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f47ad72a946ff0e0539473d/1598553442698-Q23YP8AKOF3FSGXCRE0E/DSCF7640200801%2B1.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Yoga Practice - Pregnancy Yoga</image:title>
      <image:caption>Classes for those during pregnancy are tailored to support the body, mind and spirit as you change throughout the weeks before giving birth. It’s also a chance for you to meet other pregnant people and to share experiences. In these classes we practice in circles or semi-cirlces rather than rows. There’s an opportunity to tell everyone how many weeks pregnant you are and how you’re feeling. I trained to include pregnant students in my regular classes during my yoga therapy training in 2011 and took further training with Uma Dinsmore Tuli in 2017. During pregnancy I advise taking a yoga class specifically tailored to those who are pregnant to allow you to receive the most appropriate and best support. Pregnancy yoga is such a wonderful practice that it’s almost unfair it’s only for pregnant people!</image:caption>
